The Department of Health warns people working or playing outdoors to take precautions against heatstroke and sunburn. Particular attention should be paid to children, the elderly, the sick and obese people who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
To prevent heatstroke drink plenty of water, wear light-coloured loose clothes, a hat, UV-absorbing sunglasses and sunscreen. Do not go hiking or trekking in extreme heat. Perform outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon.
People working in a hot environment should get into cool areas to rest regularly. Make sure indoor ventilation is adequate when exercising indoors.
Anyone feeling unwell should seek medical advice immediately. Call 2833 0111 or click here for more information.
