Outward processing exports to Mainland drop

Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland for outward processing reached $78.3 billion in the first quarter, a 23% drop on the same period last year, the Census & Statistics Department says.

The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing fell 49% to $1.7 billion while that of re-exports to the Mainland for outward processing dropped 22% to $76.6 billion.

The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing fell 30% to $128.8 billion, while $150.4 billion of Hong Kong's re-exports originally from the Mainland were produced through outward processing on the Mainland, down 26%.

In the first quarter, 33% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing. The figure was 31% for domestic exports and 33% for re-exports.

About 51% of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing, and 72% of Hong Kong's re-exports originally from the Mainland were produced through outward processing on the Mainland.
