The Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to the Industrial Bank of Taiwan effective July 16, bringing the total number of licensed banks in Hong Kong to 145.

According to the July 2007 issue of The Banker, it is the 16th-largest bank in its native Taiwan and the 483rd-largest bank in the world in terms of tier-one capital.
