School transport safety campaign to launch
*
Hong Kong Police

Police will launch a citywide campaign to promote school transport safety tomorrow to tie in with the start of the new school year.

The 10-day campaign will see Police Road Safety Teams give out leaflets to drivers of school buses and nanny vans, and teachers and parents, to draw their attention to students' road safety.

Drivers will be reminded to use low gear and the ancillary braking system on downhill slopes. There will also be school visits and talks on safely travelling on school buses.

In the first half of the year there were 50 traffic accidents involving school buses with 125 people injured. Last year's figures were 25 accidents and 49 injuries.
