e-Textbook scheme draws 57 applications

The Education Bureau has received 57 applications for the development of e-textbooks under its e-textbook market development scheme's second phase. Twenty applications cover mathematics, eight English language, and five Chinese language. Application results are expected to be available in late December.
 
The remaining 24 applications cover computer literacy, Putonghua, science, history, geography, life and society, Chinese history, physics and visual arts. Thirty-four applications were from non-profit-making organisations.
 
The scheme aims to encourage potential and aspiring e-textbook developers to develop e-textbooks in line with the local curricula, and to try out a vetting and quality-assurance mechanism.
 
To field-test e-textbooks developed under the scheme in schools, the bureau has separately launched a scheme to invite partner schools to try them and provide feedback, so that developers can enhance their design and content. Selected partner schools will be notified at the end of December.
