Top marks for in-custody students

July 13, 2016

Nineteen young people in custody have obtained Level 2 or above in 79 of the 90 papers they took in this year's Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, about 87.8% of all papers taken, with one of them obtaining level 5* in economics.

The candidates are at Pik Uk, Cape Collinson and Lai King correctional institutions.

Three met general entrance requirements for local universities, while one at Pik Uk scored 24 marks in the six papers taken.

They sat exams in the four core subjects of Chinese, English, mathematics and liberal studies, and two electives of economics, and tourism and hospitality studies.

The Correctional Services Department has been providing education to help young people in custody further their studies, find jobs and reintegrate into society after release.
