Secretary for Security TK Lai visited Sai Kung today to inspect drug treatment and rehabilitation services in the district, and anti-drug and anti-crime efforts there.

Mr Lai visited the Sai Kung New Being Oasis, established by the Christian New Being Fellowship, to see the training and work experience offered to its residents.

The fellowship provides academic and vocational training to help young drug abusers quit drugs and acquire skills to reintegrate into society.

The Sai Kung New Being Oasis, equipped with a pet playground, a teahouse and a handicraft shop, helps residents to put into practice the knowledge and skills they acquire there.

Mr Lai said he was pleased to learn the training has helped the youngsters build their self-confidence. He encouraged them to grasp the opportunity to equip themselves with skills for their reintegration into society.

He then visited a counselling centre for psychotropic substance abusers - the Lutheran Social Service Rainbow Lutheran Centre - where he was briefed on its services and chatted with young people there.

Mr Lai encouraged them to develop healthy hobbies, stay away from drugs and establish a positive outlook on life.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Lai met with Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee members to learn about their anti-drug and anti-crime efforts.
