The Immigration Department is investigating the leak of anonymous letters containing its documents holding personal data.

The department has referred the case to Police, and has notified the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

A special task force headed by an Assistant Director of Immigration has been formed to conduct an internal investigation.
