Police will hold a six-month trial of electronic fixed-penalty tickets for illegal parking in the first half of this year.
Participating officers will be equipped with a personal digital assistant, or a PDA, with which they can key in data, such as vehicle registration numbers, contravention codes, and locations, and print out a fixed-penalty ticket at the scene of a violation.
Eight PDAs will be deployed in the trial.
Police said the scheme will comply with data-protection principles.
