Illegal structures to be removed: Suen
May 24, 2011
Secretary for Education Michael Suen has appointed a contractor to remove illegal structures attached to his property.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Suen said the structures were there when he bought the property in 1994. They occupied a small area and were used for a washing machine and miscellaneous items.
He was notified by the Buildings Department of the problem in April 2006, but took no action. The department then registered a warning notice against the title of the premises in the Land Registry.
Mr Suen said he should have handled the issue in a more active and timely manner, adding the contractor will start removing the structures tomorrow.
Noting the department introduced a new regulation to deal will illegal structures in April, he said he will follow the rules thoroughly.
