The new Hong Kong Maritime & Port Board will be chaired by Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung and comprises 19 non-official, eight institutional and three ex-officio members, the Government announced today.
The appointments are for two years. Director of Marine and Director-General of Investment Promotion have been named ex-officio members.
Noting that establishing the board was a major milestone of Hong Kong's maritime development, Prof Cheung said the Government will work closely with the industry to set the direction for the long-term development of port and maritime services.
It will also foster the development of maritime manpower and devise strategies and initiatives to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international maritime centre, he added.
The board has a wide representation from the industry, academia and relevant statutory bodies and Prof Cheung said he was confident the board members' profound expertise and diverse backgrounds would make valuable contributions to its work.
The Chief Executive announced in the 2016 Policy Address that the Government would establish the board by merging the Maritime Industry Council and the Port Development Council.
The Maritime & Port Development, Manpower Development and Promotion & External Relations committees have been formed under the board.
