Excessive levels of mercury have been found in a sample of New Zealand chilled red perch, the Centre for Food Safety announced today.
The product is NZ Chilled Red Perch Fish with an expiry date of February 7, 2017 and city'super is the packer.
The sample was taken from a Sha Tin supermarket on a routine check conducted by the centre.
The mercury level detected was 0.71 parts per million, above the legal limit of 0.5ppm.
The centre has informed the vendor of the irregularity, and is tracing the source and distribution of the product.
It said pregnant women, women planning to get pregnant and children should avoid eating large or predatory fish.
