Mid-autumn festivities to start

(September 03, 2014)

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will host a wide range of activities throughout the city this month to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Traditional lantern carnivals will be held at Sha Tsui Road Playground on September 7, at Victoria Park on September 8, and at Tai Po Waterfront Park on September 9.

The carnival sites will be decorated with beautiful hanging lanterns, which will be on display until mid-September.

A 7.5-metre high hand-crafted lantern constructed by a local master will be erected in Victoria Park. Decorated with lanterns of different periods, the giant lantern will feature three-dimensional scenes of people living in the Qing Dynasty imperial palace.

Two lantern sets called Dinosaur Pals and Hello Taiwan, which were displayed at the Taiwan Lantern Festival earlier this year, will also be displayed in Victoria Park.

The World in Colours lantern display will light up the Cultural Centre Piazza until October 5. The lanterns will feature different ethnic groups to show Hong Kong is Asia's world city.
