Veggie vigilance effective
August 08, 2014
All samples have passed safety checks since new regulations on pesticides on vegetables were implemented on August 1.
Responding to media claims the supply of four types of vegetables has fallen since the new regulation was implemented, Under Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan told the media today the centre has confirmed with Mainland authorities that they have not banned the export of those vegetables.
However, she said the regulation has enhanced the surveillance of vegetables from the Mainland.
The Centre for Food Safety’s testing mechanism covers import, wholesale and retail levels, she added.
