Liposuction death probe launched

The Department of Health and Police are investigating yesterday’s death of a woman undergoing cosmetic surgery.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said today he is deeply concerned about the incident and expressed sympathy to the woman’s family, saying the Government will provide them with assistance.
Director of Health Dr Constance Chan said the department is helping Police investigate the case, which will be reported to the Coroner.
A registered doctor is believed to have been present during the procedure.
Police have taken samples, medical equipment and medicines for investigation.
Dr Chan said an autopsy will be conducted and a report will be submitted to the Coroner who will decide whether an inquiry is necessary.
