The Department of Health is investigating a suspected case of poisoning involving a family of four after taking soup containing the Chinese herb Radix Fici Simplicissimae.
Two men and two women, aged 34 to 64, developed dizziness, vomiting, muscle weakness and hallucinations within an hour after taking the self-prepared soup on December 23.
Two patients were admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital where they are in stable condition; the other two did not require treatment.
The department said Radix Fici Simplicissimae resembles some toxic plants or Chinese medicinal herbs and there might have been a mix-up of such substances.
