4th HK Games opens

April 27, 2013
Chief Executive CY Leung officiated at the 4th Hong Kong Games grand opening tonight, attended by over 8,500 at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said the games is the first highlighted event of the ‘Hong Kong: Our Home’ campaign's ‘Vibrant Hong Kong’ theme.

The games features 3,000 Hong Kong athletes competing in over 1,000 contests, representing their districts and fostering social cohesion and community spirit.

The ceremony’s programme included performances by district cheering teams, a grand illusion show by magician Avon Lee, and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong playing the games’ theme song ‘Come on Games On’.

It also included drumming and dance performances, performances by local pop-singer Hacken Lee and girls' groups As One and Super Gear, and a performance by the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison including military music and a rifle squad march.

The games is a territory-wide major multi-sport event held biennially since 2007, with all 18 districts competing for honours. Eight sports competitions will be held: athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
