Man ill after eating puffer fish
December 10, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection today reminded the public not to consume puffer fish, after a man fell ill from eating the delicacy.
The 66-year-old man became sick after eating the fish for dinner last night at his friend's Tseung Kwan O home.
He was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital today and is stable.
The centre said puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin, a heat-stable toxin that does not decompose during boiling or cooking.
The fish should be avoided to prevent poisoning, it said.
