Benevolent spirit

Benevolent spirit:  Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing officiates at the opening ceremony of the Taoist community's temple fair at Victoria Park.

TS Tsang supports Taoist Day

August 11, 2012
Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing supports a Hong Kong Taoist Association proposal to designate a Sunday as Taoist Day to organise celebrations and promote Taoism.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Taoist community's temple fair in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Tsang said the association had repeatedly expressed its wish to mark a Taoist Day in Hong Kong.

The association suggests designating a Sunday in March every year as Taoist Day without adding a public holiday. Mr Tsang supported this proposal and said he hoped Hong Kong could celebrate Taoist Day in March next year.

Taoism has a long history and manifests the values of Chinese culture. It is inspirational in areas such as enhancing the quality of people's lives and building a harmonious society.

Mr Tsang commended the association for contributing to the community by uniting local Taoist groups and believers, and promoting Taoism and the spirit of benevolence and kindness since its establishment in 1961.

The Hong Kong Taoist Association co-organised a temple fair today and tomorrow at Victoria Park with the Chinese Temples Committee and the Eastern District Council.
