39-year-old Guizhou man H5N1-positive

The Ministry of Health today notified the Centre for Health Protection of a confirmed human case of H5N1 in Guizhou, involving a 39-year-old man.
The patient developed symptoms on January 6 and was admitted to a hospital on the same day. The man did not have a history of exposure to poultry before he became ill.
Laboratory tests by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control & Prevention yielded a positive result for H5N1.
The centre is liaising with the Ministry of Health to obtain more information on the case.
