A dead Oriental magpie robin found in Tin Shui Wai at the weekend has tested positive for the H5 avian influenza virus in a preliminary examination.
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is conducting confirmatory tests.
The carcass was found in Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long) on December 17. Department officers have inspected two chicken farms within 3km of the school and found no abnormal mortality or avian influenza symptoms. The farms will be put under enhanced surveillance.
Oriental magpie robins are a common resident bird in Hong Kong.
