Alert issued on tainted snack, drink

July 27, 2011
The Centre for Food Safety today issued an alert on a lychee drink and a biscuit which were found to contain plasticiser di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate.

A sample of lychee drink collected from Taiwan-style drinks shop City One Beverage was found to contain the plasticiser and the centre has instructed the shop to stop selling it.

The centre noted from Macau authorities a biscuit sample, GH Assorted Fruits Dietary Fibre Pie (translation) produced by Shyang Shin Yuh Industrial in Taiwan, was found to contain the plasticiser.

As the product has also been imported to Hong Kong by HK Food.biz, the centre instructed the trade to stop selling the affected batch with an expiry date of May 2, 2012.

The centre is following up on both cases.
