Calcium tablets recalled
May 27, 2011
Cerebos (HK) is recalling Brand's Calcium Grow Chewable Tablets (HK registration number HK-58001).
The recall was ordered after its manufacturer in Taiwan found two inactive ingredients used as flavouring agents - strawberry juice powder and yoghurt powder - have been reported by their supplier as contaminated by Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), which is used primarily as a plasticiser.
Leading international authorities regard DEHP as a possible human carcinogen and exposure should be minimised.
The Department of Health is investigating whether the Public Health & Municipal Services Ordinance has been contravened in this case.
Cerebos' records show 4,608 boxes of the product have been imported from Taiwan since its registration in 2009. Cerebos has sold 2,351 boxes directly to its customers. There is no retail outlet for it.
Samples of the product have been sent to the Government Laboratory for analysis.
Cerebos has set up a hotline, 2506 9121, for enquiries.
