The InnoCarnival 2010 kicked off at Hong Kong Science Park in Sha Tin today to promote innovation and technology culture among the community.
The nine-day event will be held until November 14 with themes centred on Intelligent Living, Green Technology and Innovative Robotics.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau hoped the activities of this year’s carnival, the biggest ever, will enable the public to experience innovation and technology's achievements and arouse parents' and youngsters' interest.
With the main theme of “Transform Tomorrow Today”, the carnival activities target the younger generation. They include workshops, InnoTech competitions and exhibitions featuring entries of three main student science competitions.
More than 40 partner organisations - including universities, government departments, research institutes and youth groups - will set up 100 exhibition booths to show their latest research and development achievements. Presidents of four universities and renowned scholars will share their views on innovation technology.
Other highlights include the Hong Kong Electrical Vehicle Parade – the largest scale of its kind in Hong Kong to date; robotic and science competitions; World Expo Hong Kong Pavilion model and exhibits; two-metre-high gigantic Gundam models; newly launched “Tech Universe” interactive games at Science Park, as well as game booths, workshops and guided tours.
The carnival also introduces for elements for the elderly, displaying many items of innovative and technological inventions closely related to seniors' lives.
