Secretary for the Environment KS Wong has refuted claims the Government launched a “surprise attack” in seeking funds for preparation work for its landfill-extension plans.
Speaking to reporters today, he said every major project requires preparation work. In seeking funds for it, the Government followed procedures that have been in place for many years.
Explaining why the Government withdrew the fund application, he said: "We have our internal review, and also, as appreciated by many Legislative Councillors, they welcomed that there could be more dialogue so that any confusion could be minimised."
He said the Government will resubmit the landfill proposal to the Legislative Council soon.
