Parks, property rights preserved: KS Wong

November 13, 2013
Incorporating enclaves into country parks will not affect property rights, and existing usages will be protected, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says.

Speaking to reporters today, Mr Wong said there are already about 450 hectares of private land included in country parks.

Taking Sai Wan as an example, he noted, the existing use of private land is mainly for farmland and small houses. The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department has published guidelines to help villagers in such enclaves apply for small houses in future, he added.

"Their rights are respected and protected. But the Government would like to invest more resources to develop the areas into eco-tourism, so that not only the public at large can better enjoy the environment, but also the local people can share the benefit in future."
