Calls for Hong Kong independence go against the Basic Law and the Government will take action on the matter according to the law.
It made the statement tonight in response to comments by the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office on the establishment of an organisation advocating the "independence of Hong Kong".
The statement said Hong Kong is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China and any suggestions that it should be independent, or any movement advocating such "independence", are against the Basic Law and will undermine the city's stability and prosperity, impairing the interests of the general public.
