Barry Cheung takes leave

Chief Executive CY Leung has accepted Barry Cheung’s request to take leave of absence from all public service positions, including the Executive Council and the Urban Renewal Authority.
 
The Chief Executive’s Office said the request had been received from Mr Cheung this evening. He asked to take leave as Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange is being investigated by Police.
 
Mr Leung said the exchange is regulated by the Securities & Futures Commission under the law, and both Police and the commission have statutory enforcement powers and will act in accordance with the law.
 
"I am confident the regulatory and law enforcement bodies will act impartially without fear or favour," he said.
