ExCo convenor resigns
October 03, 2011
Executive Council Non-official Members Convenor Leung Chun-ying has resigned.
Mr Leung submitted a letter to Chief Executive Donald Tsang today tendering his resignation from the Executive Council. Mr Leung became a member of the Executive Council in 1997 and was named Convenor of Non-official Members in 2005.
Mr Tsang said he accepted the resignation.
“Mr Leung has put forward in the Executive Council many valuable opinions, contributing to the administration’s effective governance and positive responses to demands in the community. I am grateful for his efforts in assisting [me] in formulating major polices over the years. I am saddened by his departure. I trust he will continue to serve Hong Kong with dedication,” Mr Tsang said.
Mr Leung will be succeeded by Ronald Arculli, who has been an Executive Council member since 2005. Mr Arculli said he is honoured to have been appointed.
"I shall discuss with my fellow non-official ExCo colleagues how we can collectively best assist the Chief Executive in the formulation of policies and measures to meet the needs of the community, particularly to help those in need in these difficult and worrying times," he said.
